§ Identification
Field marks. Olive-and-yellow vireo with bright yellow 'spectacles' and throat, a white belly, two bold white wing bars, and a gray rump.
Similar species. Pine Warbler is slimmer with a thin bill and faint streaking; the vireo's bright yellow spectacles and stout bill are key.
Voice. A burry, deliberate 'three-eight' phrasing with a husky tone, slower than Red-eyed Vireo.

Diet. Caterpillars and other insects, occasional berries.
Behavior. The most colorful eastern vireo; forages deliberately high in deciduous canopy and is more often heard than seen. Builds a lichen-decorated cup nest.
